Advanced studies in Construction Trades for second-year students apply the fundamentals learned in the first year, as well as help students develop additional skills to qualify for immediate employment or apprenticeships in the field.

Electrical Wiring*

Use professional tools and technology to install electrical wire, switches, and fixtures found in homes and businesses

Read electrical plans, bend steel conduit, use national codes to plan layouts of power outlets, lights, and controls

Advanced studies in Electrical Wiring for second-year students help students to further develop additional skills of residential, commercial, and industrial wiring methods to qualify for immediate employment or apprenticeships.

HVAC - New Fall '23
In partnership Mott Community College: The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program is designed to provide entry level knowledge and skills for employment in the heating, cooling and refrigeration industry. Rising fuel costs and the prospect of energy shortages have placed increased demands for service on the industry. Employment forecasts indicate an expansion of career opportunities in the future. Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to demonstrate a level of competency in sizing and selecting air conditioning and heating equipment, calculating building heating loads, performing the basic mechanical tasks necessary to install and test air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment.

Each local school district will receive two seats in this program.

Students should talk to their high school counselor immediately to enroll.

The course is open to Genesee County who will be Juniors or Seniors in the fall.

It is college-level coursework in partnership with Mott Community College. The class will be held during the GCI 3rd session (12:05 PM - 1:50 PM), 3 days per week at Mott Community College. The other 2 days and will remain at their home school.

GCI will transport students to MCC on these days.

Students will need to apply to Mott and take Accuplacer by mid-June.
