Health Sciences at GCI
Year 1: Medical Career Foundations
All first-year Health Sciences students begin with Medical Career Foundations, a comprehensive program designed to explore multiple pathways in the healthcare field before committing to a specialty.
Students build essential skills in:
Hands-on experiences in local hospitals give students exposure to real healthcare environments while earning certifications such as OSHA 10, HIPAA, CPR/AED/First Aid, and more. This year is designed to give students a broad introduction to health sciences and help them decide which specialty to pursue.
Year 2: Advanced Specializations
After completing Medical Career Foundations, students may choose to continue into a second-year focused program in one of the following areas:

Nursing - CNA or PCT (Certified Nursing Assistant (Long Term Care Focus) / Patient Care Technician (Hospital Focus)) – Train for direct patient care roles in hospitals and long-term care facilities. Phlebotomy Certification.

Exercise Science – Prepare for careers in personal training, physical therapy, and sports medicine.

Medical Assistant – Learn advanced clinical and administrative skills for outpatient and clinical settings. Phlebotomy Certification.

EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) – Develop emergency response skills leading to state and national EMT certification.
Each advanced program provides deeper skill development, certification opportunities, and clinical or lab experiences tailored to the chosen pathway.
